Exclusive 'Battleship' Clip: Taylor Kitsch And Rihanna Go Rogue

Duo attempts to take down the alien invaders in this action-packed look at the Hasbro film.

Did you see it? Did you catch it in all its epic glory? As part of "MTV First: Battleship," the A-list cast — featuring Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna and Brooklyn Decker — premiered a never-before-seen clip Monday night (April 30) from the film.

The exclusive scene opens with an injured Commander Stone Hopper (Skarsgård) looking a little worried as his brother, Lt. Alex Hopper (Kitsch), takes a tiny boat of troops out on the water to get up close and personal with the sea invaders. We have no naval experience and even we know this can't be a good idea. But the officers prove to be some fearless competition for the machines as Kitsch screams to Rihanna, "Light it up!" And as promised, the Talk That Talk singer gets fierce as she aggressively fires away at the aliens.

As one of Stone's officers reports that "both spy and fire-control radar cannot lock on" to the foreign predators, Stone orders the crew to fire anyway and Alex narrowly avoids a bomb that comes flying at his head. The war zone continues as Stone's ship keeps trying to fight off incoming missiles. The clip captures the mayhem that is sure to be the Hasbro film adaptation.

From what we've seen so far, it seems that when Kitsch promised "huge" action when we spoke to him last fall, he meant it.

"You don't know what to expect with 'Battleship,' especially when we team up, [director Peter Berg] and I, you're going to get a lot of laughs, guaranteed," he said. "And, of course, the action is going to speak for itself. It's huge."

But this clip — taking place in the middle of the heated battle — does not include any laughs. As Stone attempts to aid his brother's offensive attacks and remain on the defensive to protect his crew, his ship gets hit and the bomb goes off. What happens next is an intense explosion that knocks the officers away from the bomb, sucks them back in and tosses them away again. Did we mention they're suspended in the air the whole time as debris and heavy objects fly all around them? Things do not look good for the naval crew right now.

Audiences will be able to see if the fleet of ships prevails when "Battleship" hits theaters May 18.

Star Castle finally finds a home on the Atari 2600, gets a redesigned cartridge

Image

Halo may have made its way to the Atari 2600, but wouldn't porting a retro game to this '70s-era console be more appropriate? MAKE Magazine has the skinny on former Atari dev Scott Williamson's port of the Cinematronics shooter Star Castle. Though Atari execs decided the title was too complicated to bring over in the '80s, Williamson took it upon himself to make that transition possible. The result of some serious coding is 8K of ROM and 128 bytes of RAM's worth of good ol' space war. But he didn't stop there -- he redesigned the cartridge with a transparent casing and LEDs that flash during gameplay. Click through to the source link for the full step-by-step.

Twitter Updates iPhone and Android Apps: Improves Discover Tab, Search & Push Notifications

twitter_newbird_boxed_whiteonblueTwitter just announced the latest updates to its mobile apps for Android and iOS. With these updates, these apps get a number of much-needed new features, including an improved Discover tab, better support for search and support for push notifications for interactions. These new push notifications now let you know whenever somebody retweets you, favorites one of your tweets or when somebody new follows you. With this update, Twitter is apparently trying to address some of the criticism it faced when it launched its radically redesigned mobile apps last December.

Sprint Confirms It Will Still Serve Unlimited Data To The Next iPhone

Sprint_TVadSprint plans to offer unlimited data on the next iPhone even if it's LTE. This would make the carrier the only one in the U.S. with the pairing. Verizon and AT&T went away from unlimited plans before the iPhone 4S launched in 2011 leaving just Sprint with both unlimited data and the iPhone. Unlimited data plans used to be the norm. Now, in the age of the ubiquitous smartphone, most carriers have moved away from that model as their networks strain under the load of Netflix, Facebook and Spotify. But not Sprint. The third most popular carrier in the U.S. just confirmed that it will still offer unlimited data for the next iPhone.
